Roman Near East. Gnostic. 3rd century AD. Cast lead tablet with two loops (25 x 11 mm, 3.21g).  CABAW (retrograde)/ PECAHL (retrograde). Apparently a tablet buried  in order to bless or protect a room or house. The obverse names Sabaoth, the good divinity in Gnostic belief. The reverse names Resael (a Greek transliteration of Hebrew Raziel), an archangel associated with mysticism and magic. As was customary, the tablet was folded in half before burial or other installation.  The loops allowed for the tablet to be nailed up or to another object to increase its magical efficacy.
